High Tech High School's Musical Theater Dept. is about to embark on
DRACULA: A Rock Opera, a new musical for the community.

We are very excited to be presenting a new musical based on the chilling Bram Stoker classic. This would be our 8th spring musical and the students are so excited to be putting it together in the last 7 months. Much rehearsal and planning has been underway with choreography, sets, costumes, lighting and good old stage magic that will hopefully awe the audiences in a re-telling of the Bram Stoker classic.

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the publication of my urban fantasy novel, BLACK MAGIC WOMAN.

It’s in most bookstores, and available online from Amazon and other dealers.

Here are 13 things you didn’t know about BLACK MAGIC WOMAN -- both the plot and the book itself.

1. The hero (well, one of them), Quincey Morris, is the great-great-grandson of the
Texan who died at the end of the original DRACULA. Contending with
supernatural evil has become something of a Morris family tradition.

2. The book was released in the UK and Australia on January 8th. The North
American release date was pushed back to January 29th because of a problem at
the North American printer.

3. African “muti” magic sometimes involves the use of human organs – which must be “harvested” while the victim is still alive.

4. "White" witch Libby Chastain, Quincey's partner in the investigation, is
bisexual, and a devout practitioner of what she calls "serial monogamy."

5. Jim Butcher, author of the "Dresden Files" novels, was kind enough to read
the manuscript pre-publication. As quoted on the book's cover, he calls BLACK
MAGIC WOMAN "the best manuscript I've ever been asked to read."

6. Quincey Morris is terrified of snakes, having almost died from
snakebite as a young boy. If only he knew….

7. Simon R. Green, author of the John Taylor 'Nightside" novels, was sent an
advance reading copy of BLACK MAGIC WOMAN and said, "This is a novel that's packed with story and engaging characters, and I can't wait to read the next one."

8. "White" magic cannot be used to do harm to somebody -- which doesn't mean
that you can't use it sometimes to kick somebody’s ass, as Libby Chastain knows full well.

9. Waterstones, the largest UK bookstore chain, has designated BLACK MAGIC
WOMAN as its featured SF/Fantasy title of the month. It's got its own display
in each of their 300-some stores. And if that ain’t freakin’ awesome, I don’t know what is.

10. It’s possible to drive off a bunch of zombies without having to “kill” them. All you need is the right magic – and a skilled magician to use it.

11. The South African national police really does have an Occult Crimes
Investigation Unit, although my character, Garth Van Dreenan, is not based on any
real person.

12. Vampires really do hate sunlight. A lot.

13. When you make a deal with the devil, the notes come due in brimstone.

Nosferatu is surprised and puzzled by the number of humans who still remember Nosferatu from the moving motion picture appearance He made nearly a century ago in "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens," at the pleading of the drug addict, Mr. Murnau.

Appearing in Mr. Murnau's ridiculous and simple minded opus about Nosferatu, was Nosferatu's first look at the new century and new world. Because of this, Nosferatu felt the experience was informative and worthwhile for Him. Nosferatu does not regret His exposure.

Nosferatu is surprised that so many humans still view that ancient film, and that so many young people know this work so well. It is both complimentary and strange for Nosferatu....

However, Nosferatu is not pleased that so many humans call Nosferatu by the name created by Mr. Murnau for the credits of his film, "Max Schrek". Nosferatu is Nosferatu! Forever and always. "Max Schrek" never existed.

Also this recent film made by another German madman, Werner Herzog, stars a human man who impersonates Nosferatu. This man, Mr. Kinski, was taken by Nosferatu almost exactly twelve years ago. Now Mr. Kinski belongs to Nosferatu!

Ahhhh.... Revenge is sweet!

As a note to you, my children of Darkness, concerning the content of this piece of celluloid: there is very little truth to Mr. Murnau's tale of Nosferatu. The largest lie, is that Nosferatu was annihilated by a harmless ray of sunlight all those many years ago. The absurdity of this idea makes Nosferatu almost smile.

Nosferatu may not enjoy sunlight, and may indeed shun it's bright rays, but be not fool enough to believe Nosferatu is so delicate and vulnerable that He could have his rein over this world, which has lasted for over one thousand years, ended by a ray of sunlight!

Nosferatu has grown so strong over the oceans of time he has existed, that nothing may end his rein.

One more thing.... Those absurd religious icons, those laughable "Jesus crosses," have NO MEANING at all to Nosferatu. In fact they have no meaning whatsoever!

This is Nosferatu's word on the subject....

I've heard this self-description bandied about with regards to blood-fetishists. Sounds like a nasty disease but the "sang" part is the Latin prefix for blood (I think) so I guess it makes sense. Hemoids or hemo-oids just doesn't have the same ring to it. Anyone else hear of "the sangroids"?

Composer/performance artist Jill Tracy (whose live original score to Nosferatu with The Malcontent Orchestra has been a Bay Area October tradition for the last five years) is reviving the glorious Grand Guignol of 1920s Paris. She is leading lady of Welcome to the Hypnodrome, a collection of three classic shockplays performed at the infamous French theatre.

Side Note: Ever since I changed my icon image from me wearing a dark long coat holding a gothy dramatic pose, to my current icon image of me in a cowboy hat, you might feel I'm not as scary… But don’t be fooled!

Vampires wore cowboy hats in the movie “Near Dark” and damn it! So do I!

I’m a vampire, I’m dating a zombie, I wear a cowboy hat and I’m scary!! And… don’t you forget it!!!

That is unless you want a spray can of cowboy vampire woop-ass on your neck, coupled with a zombie yelling “Brains!” and grub’n down on your... Uh... Well... Brains!

When she did her special number on the zebra skin I thought she'd stop the show

Oh Great Fiend of the Night…

I was recently re-viewing the masterful film [minus the work of an actor who shall go nameless ((cough)) “Keano Reaves”] narrating your origin and first hundred odd some years of life. In this film titled Dracula (funny how they got your name wrong), I noticed skylights and a string of large open windows in your home.

My Question: Why would you, a demon of the night, purchase and live in a house with such potential exposure to the ((spit)) cursed light of the Sun?

I’ll hang up and take your answer on the air.
